UAE to launch six bus stations, six depots to open soon, and improve public transport in Dubai
Dubai is gearing up for a significant expansion in its public transport infrastructure, with plans underway to construct a total of 16 bus stations and six bus depots across the city.
This ambitious initiative, spearheaded by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), aims to elevate the quality of public transportation services available to residents and visitors alike.
According to Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the RTA, the construction of these bus stations and depots is a pivotal component of the authority's overarching strategy to enhance the public transport network. The primary objective is to incentivize community members to opt for public transportation for their daily commute needs.
However, the project transcends the conventional role of bus stations by placing a strong emphasis on enriching the overall travel experience for passengers. This includes providing a comprehensive range of services geared towards enhancing passenger satisfaction, improving accessibility for individuals with disabilities, installing bicycle racks, and ensuring seamless integration with other modes of transportation such as the Dubai Metro and taxi services.
The scope of the project encompasses the enhancement of 16 existing bus stations situated across strategic locations in Deira and Bur Dubai. Additionally, six new bus depots will be developed in various areas, including Al Khawaneej, Al Qusais, Al Ruwyyah, Al Aweer, Jebel Ali, and Al Quoz. These depots will undergo extensive renovations and upgrades, including the addition of prayer rooms, improvements to inspection and engine wash lanes, drainage system enhancements, and the installation of new infrastructure.
Furthermore, the project will involve the construction of residential quarters for drivers at select depots, the installation of traffic signals, the construction of sidewalks, and the redesign of bus parking yards. The initial phase of testing will be conducted at the Al Khawaneej, Al Ruwyyah, and Al Aweer depots.
In recent years, the RTA has already made significant strides in enhancing Dubai's public transport infrastructure by completing the construction of several modern bus stations across key areas. These stations prioritize integration with other modes of transportation, ensuring safe and seamless connectivity for pedestrians and cyclists.
By incorporating features such as public bus parking, cycling lanes, pedestrian crossings, and aesthetically pleasing landscaping, the RTA aims to promote sustainable mobility options and create a welcoming environment for all residents, including those with disabilities.
