UAE offers vital medical support with a floating hospital to Gaza residents
The United Arab Emirates has announced the deployment of a comprehensive floating hospital to the shores of the Egyptian city of Al-Arish, aimed at delivering essential medical aid to our Palestinian brethren.
This initiative aligns with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President of the State, to extend various forms of assistance to the inhabitants of the Gaza Strip under Operation “Gallant Knight 3.”
Departing from Khalifa Port, this floating hospital is being established in collaboration with the Department of Health in Abu Dhabi and the Abu Dhabi Ports Group. It boasts a team of 100 medical and administrative professionals from diverse specialties, including anaesthesia, general surgery, orthopaedics, emergencies, nursing, and auxiliary services.
Equipped with 100 beds, operating theatres, intensive care units, radiology facilities, laboratories, pharmacies, and medical storage units, the hospital also features an evacuation aircraft, a medical evacuation vessel, and ambulances outfitted with state-of-the-art medical equipment.
This floating hospital serves as a supplementary measure complementing the role of the Emirati Field Hospital, inaugurated on December 3, 2023. With a capacity of 200 beds, the field hospital is staffed by 64 volunteers representing 17 nationalities, comprising 48 men and 16 women.
During the course of its operation, the Emirati Field Hospital has treated over 4,038 patients in need of medical attention and performed over 555 major and minor surgical procedures. From initial first aid to life-saving surgeries, as well as the administration of required medications and intensive care services, the hospital's team has provided vital treatment and care. To ensure that patients in need receive complete care, the hospital also provides consultations and other therapeutic medical treatments.
