UAE introduces four procedures that must be taken if the “identity” is lost
The digital government in the UAE has outlined a comprehensive procedure consisting of four essential steps to be followed in cases of loss, theft, or damage to the Emirates ID card.
Firstly, individuals are instructed to visit the nearest customer happiness center affiliated with the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship, Customs, and Ports Security to report the incident and request a new card with the same fixed ID number. Secondly, after reporting the incident, applicants can submit an application to replace a lost or damaged card through customer happiness centers, approved printing offices, or the authority’s smart application.
Thirdly, individuals are required to pay the necessary fees associated with the replacement process. This includes a fee of 300 dirhams for the replacement of a lost or damaged card, along with an application submission fee of 70 dirhams if submitted via printing offices or 40 dirhams if submitted online through the electronic form on the authority’s website.
Additionally, if immediate service is requested, an additional amount of 150 dirhams is charged. The new card can then be obtained from the authority’s main customer happiness centers. Lastly, individuals will receive the replacement ID card, which will have the same validity period as the remaining validity of the replaced card.
The authority ensures timely communication with the customer throughout the request process, providing updates via SMS and informing them of the expected date of receipt. Typically, a replacement for a lost or damaged card is issued within 48 hours of submitting the request, with expedited service available for customers requiring immediate attention and processed within 24 hours.
The report emphasizes the importance of direct communication with the relevant authorities in the event of loss, theft, or damage to the Emirates ID card. It specifies the suspension of the old card's effectiveness and the issuance of a stamped certificate bearing the ID number. Additionally, individuals are reminded to bring the original ID card to be replaced in cases of damage. Moreover, specific documentation requirements are outlined for citizens, residents, and guardians of children under the age of 15, ensuring a smooth and efficient replacement process tailored to individual circumstances.
