UAE court fines a man 10,000 AED for counterfeit merchandise

In a decisive move against counterfeit operations, Dubai authorities recently cracked down on an individual involved in the illicit promotion of counterfeit merchandise from a prominent brand.

The incident unfolded following a report filed by a representative of the brand, citing significant financial losses incurred due to the unlawful activities.

The Department of Combating Economic Crimes within the General Department of Criminal Investigations and Investigations at Dubai Police received intelligence regarding the accused individual's operation of an apartment within a commercial district. It was alleged that the individual possessed a substantial quantity of counterfeit items bearing the logo of the renowned brand. In response, the authorities swiftly sought authorization from the Public Prosecution to conduct a raid on the premises and seize the illicit goods.

Executing the planned raid, a dedicated team descended upon the specified apartment at a prearranged time. Their search yielded a trove of counterfeit goods, including 72 women's handbags, over 16 belts, 26 leather wallets, 163 mobile phone covers, and various other items, all prominently displaying the trademark of the well-known brand.

Upon interrogation, the accused admitted to owning the confiscated items with the intention of promoting and selling them. Subsequently, the Misdemeanour Court swiftly deliberated on the case, finding the accused guilty of the ffense. As a consequence, the court imposed a fine of 10,000 dirhams on the individual and ordered the confiscation of all counterfeit merchandise.
