Organisations in Abu Dhabi can track their progress towards environmental goals by recording how much renewable energy they use, thanks to this programme. Thanks to a historic transaction and a rise in auction participants, 2023 saw a notable spike in demand for these certificates. The 12th World Environmental Education Conference (WEEC), which was hosted in the Middle East for the first time, received clean energy certificates from EWEC recently.

Othman Juma Al Ali, CEO of EWEC, highlighted the UAE leadership's extension of the Year of Sustainability initiative to 2024 as motivation for collective efforts towards decarbonisation goals. Sustainability is a core value for EWEC, with the Clean Energy Certificates Scheme facilitating the transition to clean energy by enabling entities to reduce their carbon footprint and contribute to the nation's climate neutrality objectives.

The Department of Energy in Abu Dhabi issues clean energy certifications, which are the only means of verifying the economic and environmental advantages of clean energy. These digital certificates enable organisations to attest to the amount of clean energy they consume. They are transferable in megawatt-hour units.

EWEC oversees the implementation of the Clean Energy Certificates Scheme, managing registration and auctions in Abu Dhabi. Compliant with International Renewable Energy Certificate standards, these certificates offer participants a competitive edge in green certification. Registration is open for entities interested in participating in the upcoming auction, encouraging those keen on documenting clean energy consumption to visit EWEC's website, "www.ewec.ae/en/CleanEnergyCertificates," or contact the clean energy certification team via email at "[email protected].".

Moreover, EWEC's efforts underline its commitment to advancing clean energy adoption in Abu Dhabi, aligning with broader sustainability objectives, and contributing to global environmental stewardship.
