The Director of the Authority's Water Department, Engineer Faisal Al Sarkal, described in detail how the initiative was successful in surveying their vast 5,000 km water network using satellite technology. This creative method made it possible to quickly locate leaks in distribution and transmission lines. The project team also used state-of-the-art surveying equipment to visually verify the sites of unapproved leaks over 400 km of the network.

In the year 2023, the project yielded impressive results, with 542 leaks detected and promptly remedied across various sizes of transmission and distribution lines. This proactive approach not only saved a substantial amount of water but also resulted in significant cost savings, estimated at 27 million UAE dirhams. The conservation efforts led to the preservation of 788 million gallons of water, underscoring the project's impact on resource management and financial efficiency.

Al Sarkal emphasised the Authority's ongoing commitment to maintaining water networks to the highest international standards. By leveraging cutting-edge technology and adhering to best practices, the authority aims to continuously improve efficiency and reduce losses within their water infrastructure. This proactive stance reflects their dedication to environmental stewardship and responsible water management.

The successful implementation of the satellite-based project highlights the Authority's proactive approach to addressing water leaks and conserving valuable resources. By harnessing satellite technology and modern surveying equipment, they have significantly enhanced their ability to detect and mitigate leaks, contributing to water conservation efforts in the region.

Moving forward, the Authority remains steadfast in its commitment to monitoring and maintaining water networks, striving for excellence in water management practices. Through continuous innovation and proactive measures, they aim to further optimise efficiency and reduce losses, ensuring the sustainable use of water resources for future generations.

Furthermore, a major step towards the region's sustainable resource utilisation has been taken with the launch of the satellite-based initiative by the Sharjah Electricity, Water, and Gas Authority, which demonstrates their commitment to proactive water management, conservation, and efficiency.
