Dubai Records 59% of Total Licenses Registered in 2023
The National Economic Register has reported an impressive milestone, revealing that over 800,000 commercial licenses were registered for companies and institutions across the UAE by the close of 2023.
Dubai dominates with a 59% share
Dubai emerged as the commercial hub, securing approximately 59% of the total licences in the country. The city obtained a staggering 470.5 thousand licences, with 79% processed through the Department of Economy and Tourism. Notably, limited liability companies took the lead in the commercial licencing landscape, garnering over 139 thousand licences.
Abu Dhabi's Significant Contribution
The Emirate of Abu Dhabi contributed significantly, holding a 19.2% share of the total commercial licences nationwide. With a total of 154.3 thousand licences, individual companies took the lead with 75.2 thousand licences, closely followed by limited liability companies and companies combining limited liability and one person.
Sharjah's Commercial Landscape
In third place, Sharjah said that it had received 12.4% of all licences issued in the nation, or about 99 thousand licences. The Economic Department saw an increase in the number of individual enterprises, with approximately 40,000 licences, which is indicative of the variety of commercial organisations inside the emirate.
Ras Al Khaimah's Investment Focus
Ras Al Khaimah contributed 6.7% to the total licences in the UAE, with 53.2 thousand licenses. Notably, over 61% of these licences were concentrated in investment areas, showcasing the emirate's focus on strategic economic zones.
Licencing Landscape in Fujairah and Umm Al Quwain
Fujairah reported about 13.7 thousand licences, of which 97% were processed through its economic departments. In Umm Al Quwain, a total of 3,365 licences were registered in 2023, further contributing to the diverse economic tapestry of the UAE.
