Couples can now obtain their marriage contracts instantly through text messages and various digital channels, a pioneering initiative introduced by the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department (ADJD).

Immediate contract delivery

In this innovative approach, couples receive their marriage contracts immediately after the ceremony concludes, and the officiant digitally authenticates the marriage. This marks a notable development in marriage procedures, offering unparalleled convenience to the newlyweds.

Digital marriage without leaving home

Abu Dhabi's forward-thinking approach extends to facilitating marriages without the need for physical presence. The entire process, including the expression 'I do,' can now be conducted through video conferencing. Since the inception of digital marriage contracts in October 2022, the ADJD has issued approximately 7,000 such contracts.

Commitment to Judicial Excellence

Counsellor Yousef Saeed Al Abri, the undersecretary of the ADJD, emphasised that this service reflects the department's unwavering commitment to excellence in the judicial and notarial sectors of Abu Dhabi. The introduction of digital marriage contracts aligns with the department's pursuit of innovative and efficient judicial practices.

The digital marriage process

For those contemplating a digital wedding in Abu Dhabi, the process is streamlined and user-friendly.

  1. Online Marriage Application: Submit your marriage application online using the ADJD's website and the UAE Pass for seamless access.

  2. Procedures Finalisation: Upon approval, applicants can finalise procedures online, opting for either an in-person ceremony or a video-call marriage session.

  3. Appointment Booking: Schedule your marriage session appointment at your convenience.

  4. Instant Contract Delivery: Following the completion of the marriage session, the digital contract is promptly delivered to the couple.

  5. Digital Authentication and Sharing: The finalised contracts, bearing a unique contract number, are digitally authenticated and can be shared through official channels using a digital signature.

Flexibility and efficiency

The ADJD's marriage platform not only ensures a swift and efficient process but also provides users with flexibility in scheduling. The platform enables users to check officiants' availability, access automated medical examination results, and receive digitally authenticated documents, eliminating the need for traditional paper documentation. This digital transformation in matrimonial services signifies a remarkable stride towards modernising and simplifying the marriage process in Abu Dhabi.
