Abu Dhabi introduces free citywide Wi-Fi for public use
Unveiling a new project to offer free Wi-Fi connection throughout the whole emirate is Abu Dhabi's Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT).
With the launch of this comprehensive service, locals and visitors may now connect better in a variety of public areas, such as parks, beaches, and buses.
Extensive coverage and partnerships
In a collaborative effort with UAE service providers, the DMT has ensured widespread coverage. Public parks, numbering 19 in Abu Dhabi, 11 in Al Ain, and 14 in the Al Dhafra Region, are now equipped with free Wi-Fi. Further expansion of this initiative is underway, with plans to include popular destinations such as Abu Dhabi Corniche Beach and Al Bateen Beach in the near future.
Chairman's Perspective
The Chairman of DMT, Mohamed Ali Al Shorafa, took satisfaction in the service's introduction and emphasised how important it is for delivering lag-free connectivity across various places. Al Shorafa emphasised Abu Dhabi's noteworthy position in the IMD Smart City Index 2023, which places it at number 13 out of 141 cities worldwide. This accomplishment highlights the emirate's steadfast adherence to important values like transparency, creativity, inclusion, and sustainability, reaffirming its commitment to promoting the development of smart cities.
Impact on Smart City Development
The launch of free Wi-Fi aligns with the broader vision of transforming Abu Dhabi into a smart city. This strategic move not only enhances the overall experience for residents and tourists but also contributes to the city's global recognition in the realm of smart urban planning. The commitment to innovation and connectivity is evident in the comprehensive approach taken by the DMT, reflecting a proactive stance in shaping a digitally empowered and interconnected community.
As Abu Dhabi continues to prioritise smart city initiatives, the introduction of free Wi-Fi across key locations is a significant step towards fostering a more connected and technologically advanced urban environment.
