RTA declares 75% completion in the Jorn Al Sabkha Intersection
Significant progress has been made in the effort to improve the junction of Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and Jurn Al Sabkha Street, according to the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).
This project, which accounted for 75% of the total project, produced four bridges with a combined length of 2,874 meters and a vehicle throughput of 17,600 per hour. In keeping with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, the project intends to continuously modernize the city's infrastructure to match its rapid pace of development.
The project execution, overseen by the RTA, has reached milestones including the completion of bridge bases and columns. Ongoing efforts encompass the casting of bridge walls and installation of iron supports, alongside road expansion, lighting installations, rainwater drainage networks, and necessary traffic diversions to facilitate bridge completion. Anticipated completion of one of the main bridges is slated for the second quarter of this year.
The project's importance in maximizing traffic flow connecting important routes like Sheikh Zayed and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed routes was underlined by Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Directors of RTA. Its completion is expected to result in a 40% reduction in travel times, especially from Jurn Al Sabkha Street to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Street in the direction of Al Qusais and Deira. Furthermore, a 70% reduction in travel time from 21 to 7 minutes is anticipated between Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Street to Al Yalayis Street in the direction of Jebel Ali Port.
The project includes the construction of four bridges, each designed to improve traffic efficiency. These include a bridge at the intersection of Jurn Al Sabkha Street and Al Asayel Street, which allows for free traffic movement and serves as an important link between Sheikh Zayed Road and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Street. The other bridges cater to different traffic directions, resulting in smoother flow and less congestion.
Apart from constructing bridges, the project involves improving over seven kilometers of roads, including surface intersections on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road. Installing irrigation and drainage networks, traffic signals, and road lighting are also part of it.
This initiative is part of RTA's comprehensive plan to develop strategic road axes, enhancing transportation infrastructure to support current and future development projects and accommodate growing traffic demands in Dubai. Previous endeavors like the development of Al Yalayis Street and Expo Street have already bolstered the city's transportation system, serving as vital arteries for development projects across the emirate.
