UAE unveils a Security and Counter-Terrorism MoU with Rwanda

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between the two countries during the World Government Summit 2024 in Dubai from February 12 to 14.

The signatories were Alfred Gasana, the Minister of the Interior of the Republic of Rwanda, and Lt. General His Highness Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior of the United Arab Emirates. Their commitment to enhancing cooperation in the areas of security and counterterrorism is reaffirmed by this memorandum of understanding.

The primary focus of the memorandum is to fortify collaboration frameworks in combating various forms of crime and facilitating the exchange of vital information. The overarching aim is to significantly mitigate crime rates and ensure the safety and security of both nations' citizens. By leveraging shared resources and expertise, the agreement aims to enhance security measures and promote community-based crime prevention strategies.

Moreover, the memorandum seeks to deepen cooperation between the UAE and Rwanda through joint training programmes, courses, and collaborative initiatives in the fields of police work and security operations. These efforts are geared towards fostering a more robust and coordinated approach to addressing security challenges and combating emerging threats.

Both nations stand to gain from improved capabilities and closer ties in tackling the changing security situation as a result of the formalisation of this agreement. The MoU is evidence of Rwanda's and the UAE's shared commitment to collaborating for a more secure future for their respective countries and regions. The MoU establishes the foundation for ongoing collaboration and mutual support in the fight against crime and protecting the welfare of their communities through common knowledge-sharing platforms and joint ventures.
