At least thirteen public holidays have already been scheduled for 2024, providing UAE citizens with some good news to start off the new year.

UAE's 2024 Public Holidays Revealed

The Cabinet just made public the list, which includes national, religious, and cultural events. Plus, locals will have plenty of time to relax and explore since four of the seven scheduled events will graciously turn into longer weekends.

A Three-Day Weekend

The year will commence with a three-day weekend as January 1, the first official holiday of the new year, falls on a Monday. This offers residents a well-deserved break to recuperate after celebrating the arrival of 2024 on New Year's Eve.

Eid Al Fitr Grants a 6-Day Break

One of the most anticipated breaks comes with Eid al-Fitr, marking the end of Ramadan. The government has designated Ramadan 29 to Shawwal 3 as public holidays, granting approximately four or five days off, depending on the lunar calendar. In 2024, Ramadan is expected to span from Tuesday, April 9, to Friday, April 12. Coupled with the regular weekend, this results in an impressive six-day break for revelry.

Arafah Day and Eid al-Adha

Arafah Day, a revered occasion in Islam, observed on Dhul Hijjah 9, is followed by the three-day celebration of Eid al-Adha. This translates to a five-day break from Sunday, June 16, to Wednesday, June 19, encompassing the weekend on Saturday, June 15. It provides residents with an extended period to engage in spiritual observances and festive activities.

Islamic New Year

The second new year of 2024 falls in July, with Muharram 1, the first day of the Hijri year, expected on Sunday, July 7. While it may not grant an extended holiday, it offers a day off for those not enjoying a Sunday weekend.

Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) birthday

Celebrated on Rabi Al-Awwal 12, Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) birthday adds a touch of religious significance to the calendar. However, the exact Gregorian calendar date remains unspecified.

National Day caps off the year with a 4-day holiday

The year concludes with a grand finale as December 2 and 3, marking National Day, fall on Monday and Tuesday, respectively. When combined with the regular weekend, this results in a delightful four-day holiday, allowing residents to celebrate the nation's achievements and reflect on the year gone by.

As residents plan their 2024 calendars, these public holidays present exciting opportunities for travel, staycations, and cultural observances. It's a year filled with diverse occasions catering to various interests and providing well-deserved breaks throughout.
