UAE: Islamic Affairs reveals an app for global prayer time calculations
The Dubai Department of Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities has introduced a novel application designed to calculate prayer times and accurately determine the Qibla direction worldwide, boasting superior precision compared to other specialised apps.
Named "Dlock DXB," this application marks a pioneering initiative as the first global app launched by a specialized government institution, the Department of Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities in Dubai, in collaboration with the International Astronomy Center. Available on both Apple and Android platforms, "Dlock DXB" caters to a diverse audience with its user-friendly interface, featuring short screens of various shapes and sizes and supporting Arabic and English languages. Notably, it is the inaugural application in this domain specifically tailored for individuals with disabilities.
"Dlock DXB" offers multiple benefits, including providing highly accurate and dependable prayer timings, closely aligning with official times in Islamic nations, and remaining precise for other global regions. Moreover, it presents Qibla direction through diverse methods such as a compass, augmented reality, and a 360-degree image of the Holy Kaaba, along with a map display.
The application seamlessly identifies the user's geographical location with precision and selects the corresponding city name from a database encompassing approximately 50,000 cities across 190 countries. Additionally, it allows users to manually specify their location on the world map. Users receive timely alerts for calls to prayer and Iqama, along with advanced notifications preceding the call to prayer. Furthermore, "Dlock DXB" facilitates conversion between the Hijri and Gregorian calendars, referencing the calendar of early Hijri months for accurate date conversions.
In essence, the introduction of "Dlock DXB" signifies a significant advancement in technology catering to the Islamic community's needs, offering unparalleled accuracy and convenience in prayer time calculations and Qibla direction determination.
