Mohamed bin Zayed launches the Water Initiative to tackle global water scarcity
The "Mohamed bin Zayed Water Initiative" was unveiled today in response to the urgent global issue of water scarcity, as per the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State.
This initiative, spearheaded by His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs, with His Excellency Khaldoon Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of the Executive Affairs Authority, serving as Vice Chairman, seeks to address the severity of the water scarcity crisis on a global scale.
The initiative's main goal is to increase global awareness of how serious the problem of water scarcity is. It aims to accelerate the creation of novel technical solutions to tackle this urgent problem while evaluating their effectiveness in mitigating the worsening situation.
Furthermore, the initiative aims to foster collaboration with international partners and stakeholders to accelerate the pace of technological innovation in tackling water scarcity. It aims to broaden the scope of international cooperation and advocate for increased investments aimed at overcoming this challenge for the benefit of present and future generations.
Renowned individuals such as His Excellency Mohammed bin Hassan Al Suwaidi, Minister of Investment; Her Excellency Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak Al Shamsi, Minister of Climate Change and Environment; and His Excellency Suhail bin Mohammed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, make up the initiative's Board of Directors. Furthermore, a key position in the leadership hierarchy is occupied by Her Excellency Maryam Mohammed Hareb Al Muhairi, Head of Diwan's Office of International Affairs.
Key members of the Board include Ray Dalio, the founder of Bridgewater Investment Company; His Excellency Abdullah Al-Alaa, Assistant Secretary of State for Energy and Sustainability Affairs; David Scott, Advisor to the President of the Executive Affairs Authority; and His Excellency Faisal Abdulaziz Al-Bannai, Secretary-General of the Advanced Technology Research Council. As a team, they are responsible for guiding the project to meet its goals in order to address water scarcity worldwide.
