Dubai Police launches "Ramadan without Accidents" campaign for road safety
In an attempt to deter drivers from racing home for iftar, the evening meal that breaks the fast, Dubai Police has started a program to hand out meals to drivers at major intersections during Ramadan.
The goal of this project is to lessen the number of accidents that usually happen as cars rush home in time for iftar. Due to drivers' unsafe driving practices, the police observed an upsurge in accidents around this time.
The Department of Traffic Awareness, the General Department for Human Rights, the Al Khawaneej Police Station, the Emirates Red Crescent, Dubai Charity Association, Dubai Customs, Dubai Digital Authority, Med7 Pharmacy, Life Pharmacy, and Talabat were among the organizations with which Dubai Police collaborated on the "Ramadan without Accidents" initiative. Together, during the first week of Ramadan, they fed almost 71,000 iftar meals to drivers.
Meal distributions are conducted at busy crossroads with the assistance of volunteers, traffic cops, and other groups. Approximately 71,850 people received meals from this program in just the first week alone, with 10,000 meals being given out every day on average. The director of Dubai Police's General Department of Traffic, Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, thanked the participating organizations and volunteers for their assistance. He emphasized how crucial it is to drive carefully throughout Ramadan in order to preserve the month's safety and sanctity.
The campaign serves as a reminder for motorists to prioritize safety over haste during Ramadan, a time when families gather to break their fast. By providing meals at key intersections, Dubai Police aims to encourage drivers to take their time and avoid engaging in risky behaviors on the road. Through collaborative efforts with various organizations, Dubai Police seeks to create a safer environment for motorists during the holy month, ultimately contributing to a reduction in traffic accidents and ensuring the well-being of the community.
