Dubai launches a 1.1 billion AED scholarship programme for Emirati students
Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council of Dubai, has introduced a new AED1.1 billion ($299 million) scholarship initiative designed to support Dubai students, ultimately contributing to the long-term growth of the local economy.
The Hamdan bin Mohammed Academic Scholarship Programme has earmarked AED1.1 billion ($299 million) to facilitate the higher education of exceptional Emirati graduates from both public and private schools in the city. The programme, set to commence applications in April 2024 for the 2024–2025 academic year, aims to fund 100 students annually.
Prospective students can submit their applications through the DubaiNow platform, utilising the "Emarati" icon. The selection criteria will adhere to the terms and conditions outlined by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA). The application window will be synchronised with the announcement of high school results, accommodating the varying timeframes associated with different curricula.
This initiative is aligned with the Dubai Social Agenda 33, a broader plan launched by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. The primary objective of the programme is to support high-achieving Emirati students by providing them with opportunities for higher education at leading academic institutions.
The programme's goal is to contribute to the empowerment of Dubai's human capital by offering diverse higher education platforms and ensuring that promising students receive advanced education and occupational training, thereby preparing a future-ready workforce.
Sheikh Hamdan emphasised the significance of investing in Emiratis' higher education, highlighting the commitment of Dubai's government to provide necessary resources to empower top achievers. He noted that this initiative acknowledges students pursuing academic excellence, helping them achieve their aspirations and contribute as competent and influential leaders in Dubai's development journey.
The Hamdan bin Mohammed Academic Scholarship Programme builds upon the existing scholarships by offering an additional 75 scholarships, benefiting 100 outstanding students annually. Aligned with Social Agenda 33, the programme contributes to positioning Dubai among the top 10 cities globally in terms of education quality by 2033. It also aims to support students in pursuing specialised studies at prestigious international universities, aligning with the needs of the city's economy and boosting citizens' economic participation.
This comprehensive scholarship initiative combines financial support with a strategic vision, aiming to nurture talents, celebrate innovators, and cultivate exceptional leaders, marking a significant step towards enhancing the knowledge ecosystem, fostering innovation, and creating opportunities for progress in Dubai.
