The "Dubai Jet Suit Race," which is set for February 28, 2024, has been announced by the Dubai Sports Council. It is being held under the patronage and orders of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of DIEC.

This groundbreaking event, organized in collaboration with Gravity Industries, a company at the forefront of jet suits and jet suit racing, marks a significant milestone in global sports, featuring competitors navigating a predetermined course using jet-powered suits instead of conventional aircraft.

Eight contestants, including the UAE's Ahmed Al Shehhi, will compete in this unique aerial race. The event serves not only as a thrilling sporting spectacle but also showcases Dubai's prowess as a global event host. Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Sports Council, emphasized that this event symbolizes a new era in global aerial sporting action, highlighting Dubai's innovative spirit and its ability to overcome challenges.

The announcement was made during a ceremony at Burj Park, adjacent to the Burj Khalifa, featuring a live demonstration with three competitors in jet suits flying over the Dubai Fountain. The race will coincide with the city's International Boat Show, allowing exhibition visitors to witness this extraordinary aerial competition.

Emirati racer Ahmed Al Shehhi is undergoing specialized training in Britain to qualify for this groundbreaking race. The competition will take place in the area between Dubai Harbor and Skydive Dubai, chosen for its suitability for the sport. Specially designed jet suits, prioritizing health and safety, including protection from drowning and additional buoyancy, will be worn by the competitors.

Saeed Hareb, Secretary-General of the Dubai Sports Council, expressed excitement about this historic event, highlighting the city's commitment to bringing novel and distinguished sporting events to a global audience. The unique seafront district, including Dubai Harbour, the waterfront overlooking Palm Island, and the Dubai Marina district, will serve as the backdrop for this groundbreaking event.

Richard Browning, Founder and Chief Test Pilot of Gravity Industries, anticipates the race series to offer unprecedented excitement and drama, reminiscent of Formula One but updated for the 21st century and airborne. The event aims not only to deliver a spectacular flying and racing display but also to intensify competition through challenging flight paths, testing competitors' maneuverability, accuracy, and flight speed to determine the top contenders for podium positions.
