Dubai Airports promise an Exceptional Travel, 210 Gates in Al Maktoum Phase One
The Chief Operating Officer of Dubai Airports, Majid Al-Joker, recently disclosed ambitious plans for the expansion of Al Maktoum International Airport.
Upon completion of the first phase, expected in a decade, the airport will boast 210 gates, with the final phase envisioning a staggering 400 gates, though a specific timeline remains unspecified. Currently, Dubai International Airport has 84 gates.
Al-Joker emphasized a traveler-centric approach, aiming to enhance the airport experience in the pre-arrival stages. The upcoming airport will feature a central transportation station seamlessly linking it to Dubai city, accommodating taxis, buses, metros, and other modes of transport. This focus extends to promoting public transportation to curb carbon emissions.
The envisioned expansion represents an initial concept, with meticulous attention required for operational strategies and guest experiences throughout the airport journey. Collaboration with airlines and strategic partners is integral to crafting a modern, efficient, and comfortable travel environment.
Despite the forthcoming transformation, Dubai International Airport will maintain its status as a vital aviation hub. Any surge in passenger numbers will be managed effectively, with ongoing expansions and technology integration to streamline journeys.
The transition to Al Maktoum Airport will be gradual, with Dubai Airport's capacity currently handling up to 100 million passengers annually, expandable to 120 million. Al Maktoum Airport, in its current state, accommodates 27 million passengers, with readiness for further increases.
Proactive measures are in place to address weather-related challenges, with a robust crisis management strategy in collaboration with stakeholders. Lessons learned from past incidents strengthen logistical capabilities for swift response to unforeseen circumstances.
Upon completion, the new airport, expected to be the largest in the world, represents a significant investment of 128 billion dirhams. With a projected capacity of 260 million passengers, the facility spans 70 square kilometers, boasting advanced infrastructure, including five parallel runways and multiple passenger buildings. An internal train network and a comprehensive central transportation station ensure seamless connectivity for travelers around the clock.
