UAE Factory Fire: 1 Missing Pakistani Feared Dead, other Victims Hospitalized
DNA tests and forensic examinations are in progress on a charred body found at the scene, suspected to belong to Akbar, as authorities announced.
Nine Pakistani nationals, injured in a blaze at a chemical plant in Ajman on February 24, are undergoing treatment in various UAE hospitals.
A delegation from the Pakistan Consulate in Dubai, led by Community Welfare Attaché Imran Shahid, visited Zayed Hospital, Kuwaiti Hospital, and Al Qassimi Hospital to assess the condition and treatment progress of some of the injured individuals.
Following the factory fire, Akbar, a resident of Dera Ghazi Khan, Punjab, was reported missing, according to the consulate. A burnt corpse taken from the scene of the crime, thought to be Mr. Akbar's, is now undergoing forensic examination and DNA testing. The fire broke out late Saturday at a plant that made chemicals used in fragrances and hand sanitizers, according to the Pakistani embassy in the UAE.
Ijaz, a patient from Shaheed Benazirabad, Sindh, was treated at Zayed Hospital in Sharjah, and his doctors there noted that he was improving. Ijaz was taken off the ventilator after suffering 65% burns. The medical staff is thinking of sending Ijaz to the Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City (SSMC) Hospital in Abu Dhabi so he may get expert care. At Sharjah's Al Kuwaiti Hospital, Shahid, who is also from Shaheed Benazirabad, is still in serious condition after suffering 55% burns. They are both on ventilator support; Zahoor, who is also from the area, is in the hospital with 35% burn damage. Assuring ongoing assistance to those impacted and their families, the embassy team conveyed thanks to the medical personnel for their efforts.
Sikandar, hospitalized at Al Qassimi Hospital in Sharjah, has endured 60% burns and requires ventilator support. Physicians are considering relocating him to SSMC Hospital in Abu Dhabi. The visiting team engaged with authorities from the intensive care unit and emergency department, attending physicians, and the relatives and friends of the injured to guarantee optimal support. Consul General Hussain Muhammad affirmed, "The essential treatment of all the injured is underway in the ICUs of respective hospitals. We are committed to providing every possible assistance to the victims of this tragic incident."
