Qatar unveils decreasing working hours for Ramadan 2024
Qatar has made it known that it plans to change state servants' work patterns during the holy month of Ramadan.
Ibrahim bin Ali Al Mohannadi, the Minister of Justice and State Minister for Cabinet Affairs, has released a circular outlining the modifications that are relevant to civil servants working in all ministries, government agencies, and public establishments. The circular states that during Ramadan, civil servants' working hours will be reduced to five hours every day, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Furthermore, workers might be allowed to arrive later, up to 10 a.m., as long as they do their tasks within the allotted five hours.
To facilitate these adjustments, a remote work system will be implemented during Ramadan, allowing up to 30 percent of employees to work from home. Priority for remote work will be given to Qatari mothers and individuals with disabilities, ensuring that operational needs are met while accommodating personal circumstances.
In the healthcare and education sectors, the Ministry of Public Health and the Ministry of Education and Higher Education will determine specific working hours and schedules tailored to the nature of their respective fields. These decisions aim to ensure the efficient delivery of services while respecting the spiritual significance of Ramadan.
