Kuwait Declares 3-Day Holiday , 40-Day Mourning Following Emir Passing
Kuwait has declared a national holiday coupled with a mourning period following the passing of Sheikh Nawaf Al Ahmad Al Sabah. The holiday is set to commence on Sunday, December 17, and conclude on Tuesday, December 19.
The Prime Minister Acknowledges Sheikh Nawaf's Achievements
In response to the somber occasion, Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah presided over an emergency cabinet meeting. During this gathering, he offered heartfelt tributes to the late Sheikh Nawaf, acknowledging the significant achievements of the departed leader. The Council of Ministers expressed deep condolences for the loss, recognizing Sheikh Nawaf's dedication and loyalty to Kuwait and its people.
Sheikh Mishal Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah
Simultaneously, Deputy Prime Minister Essa Al-Kanderi made a pivotal announcement, stating that Crown Prince Sheikh Mishal Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah would ascend to the position of Emir of the State of Kuwait. This announcement adheres strictly to the constitutional provisions set for such circumstances, ensuring a smooth transition of leadership.
Funeral Arrangements and Restrictions
The funeral arrangements for Sheikh Nawaf will be restricted to family members and close relatives, as revealed by Minister of Amiri Diwan Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah. While expressing gratitude for the sentiments of sorrow from citizens and expatriates, he disclosed that prayers would be conducted at Belal bin Rabah Mosque on Sunday, December 17, at 9 a.m., followed by a funeral later in the morning.
Condolence Reception by the New Emir
To personally receive condolences, Sheikh Mishal Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah and other Al Sabah family members will be present at the Diwan of Al Sabah Family at Bayan Palace in Kuwait on Monday morning, as well as Tuesday morning and afternoon.
