As relief gradually spreads across the Middle East, experts warn that the recent ceasefire's effectiveness will largely depend on its careful implementation and both parties' ability to transform this fragile pause into enduring peace.

The ceasefire agreement marks a significant initial step toward broader peace efforts. It includes stipulations for releasing remaining hostages in Gaza, withdrawing Israeli forces to an agreed line, and freeing Palestinian prisoners. Additionally, it permits humanitarian aid entry and initiates reconstruction work.

U.S. President Donald Trump announced the agreement, stating that a "council of peace" would be formed to sustain stability, alongside confirming his upcoming visits to Israel and Egypt. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared it "a great day for Israel," leading to celebrations across both Israel and Gaza overnight.

However, full cessation of Israeli military operations has yet to occur. The military advises its forces to remain vigilant against any scenario and warns Palestinians not to return to areas still occupied by troops.

‘Cautious Optimism’ Across the Region

Mahdi Ghuloom, Junior Fellow in Geopolitics at ORF Middle East, noted the significance of the agreement's timing.

“This deal was overdue,” he shared with Alkhbr News. “Its value lies in preventing further escalation. There's cautious optimism—this is the beginning of what many have termed 'the day after' phase.”

Ghuloom added that moving from ceasefire to sustained peace poses another challenge.

“It requires not only traditional mediators like Qatar and Egypt but also partners such as the UAE,” he stated. “The UAE plays a crucial role in aiding Gaza and will likely be pivotal in ensuring meaningful peace benefits for residents.”

Implications for the Wider Region

According to Abishur Prakash, Geopolitical Strategist and Founder of The Geopolitical Business Inc., this agreement could herald greater regional stabilization opportunities.

“An opportunity emerges for regional stability,” he remarked. “A halt in Gaza fighting sets a stage for renewed integration between Arab states and Israel.”

Yet Prakash cautioned that geopolitics remains complex even if conflict pauses temporarily.

Shifting Regional Dynamics

Dr Elie Al Hindy from American University in Emirates observed that converging interests among key players under pressure helped foster this truce.
"Finally key actors realized bombing must stop," he explained."Hamas faces accountability over deaths caused; Netanyahu deals with immense international scrutiny; meanwhile Trump's legacy ambitions are apparent—perhaps seeking Nobel Peace recognition.”
