Designed to accommodate up to 900 vehicles per hour, the newly inaugurated bridge provides direct access for motorists from Abu Dhabi and Jebel Ali to the car parks of the Mall of the Emirates. Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors at RTA, highlighted that this project underlines their commitment to collaborating with real estate development partners in enhancing infrastructure that serves Dubai’s property and retail sectors. The initiative not only included building a 300-meter bridge but also involved significant upgrades such as improving the Umm Suqeim junction by widening ramps and facilitating smoother access from Umm Suqeim Street.

An upgrade was also executed on 2.5 km of roads surrounding the Mall of the Emirates, accompanied by six signalised intersections. Additionally, modifications were made to the bus station at Mall of the Emirates Metro Station, along with converting adjacent one-way roads near Kempinski Hotel into two-way streets.

Benefits for Commuters

The new bridge has dramatically reduced travel time for drivers coming from Abu Dhabi and Jebel Ali to just one minute from ten. Moreover, it enhances overall traffic efficiency while significantly boosting road safety in nearby areas.

This year will also witness RTA launching another extensive project — the Umm Suqeim Street Improvement Project — spanning 6 km between its junctions with Jumeirah Street and Al Khail Road. This development includes upgrading six major junctions connecting key arterial routes across Dubai.

The plans involve constructing four bridges alongside two tunnels totaling 3.45 km in length—one located at Umm Suqeim Street's intersection with Jumeirah Street featuring dual lanes per direction—and another tunnel connecting Al Wasl Street with Sheikh Zayed Road towards Jumeirah.

Boosting Capacity & Connectivity

"We are adding an extra lane on Umm Suqeim Street leading up from First Al Khail Road right through Al Asayel Street," mentioned Al Tayer, underscoring how these improvements increase capacity to four lanes each way while integrating bridges linking industrial zones like Al Quoz directly onto main routes like Deira-bound roads via strategic connections.
