The GCAA affirms that UAE airports are prepared to receive visitors at COP28
The General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) Director-General, Saif Al Suwaidi, stated that the country's airports are prepared to host visitors for COP28, which will take place in Expo City Dubai from November 30 to December 12, 2023.
Al Suwaidi stressed the need to highlight the nation's accomplishments in the aviation sector when he told the Emirates News Agency (WAM) that the GCAA and the nation's aviation industry are significant hosts of this international event.
He continued, noting that the authority established a national team with participation from all key stakeholders in the aviation industry to organise the conference and reduce emissions. For more than ten years, the UAE has started a number of international projects targeted at lowering emissions.
He noted that the group includes sizeable task teams with expertise in media, operations, logistics, and aviation storytelling.
The most significant international conference on aviation's contribution to climate change, he said, will be held in November at the GCAA, and would cover the future of aviation fuel production as well as crucial initiatives to hasten the process.
Since 2010, the authority has participated actively in all pertinent international talks through the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) and "COP."
Al Suwaidi noted the UAE's active participation in the ICAO's Committee on Aviation Environmental Protection, where it collaborates with more than 700 international experts to develop laws, systems, and solutions for environmental harmony, economic growth, and climate change mitigation. Many ICAO resolutions that support the strategic goals of reducing emissions have been endorsed, he continued.
He added that the group applauded the UAE's submission of a comprehensive national action plan, the "National Plan for Emission Reduction," which was also made.
